Old Man Moyer

Colorado Rockies pitch Jamie Moyer earned the 268th career win last night by pitching a solid seven innings and giving up two (unearned) runs. More significantly, at 49 years and 150 days old Moyer became the oldest man to win a MLB game. The previous record was held by the Brooklyn Dodgers’ Jack Quinn, who once upon a time beat the Cardinals back in Ebbets Field at age 49 years and 70 days old. Not one of Moyers’ 87 pitches of the night surpassed 80 mph on the radar gun, and his catcher for the evening was born three years after Moyers made his major league debut.
